Ruling places, dates, and people out can be as important as discoveries of the where and when of ancestral searching. Negative evidence is often a giant step forward. Here we look at how a few “negatives” can yield significant “positives.” A military focus will be involved in case studies presented.

Retired college professor and former Board-Certified genealogist, Jean Wilcox Hibben has a Master's in speech communication and a PhD in folklore. A national speaker and writer, Jean is the staff trainer for the Corona Family History Center, President & webmaster of the Corona Gen Soc, and past-President of the So Calif Chapter of APG. Jean is a columnist for the Jefferson Co. NY Gen. Soc. newsletter. She has been a Jamboree presenter since 2010.

Richard Hill, MBA 

Richard Hill was the first adoptee to identify his birth family through genetic genealogy DNA tests. He shares his personal success story in his book "Finding Family: My Search for Roots and the Secrets in My DNA." His "Guide to DNA Testing" is a Kindle-only book that he updates periodically. Richard founded the DNA Testing Adviser website to educate genealogists, adoptees, and others on genetic genealogy and other DNA tests. He also has a Facebook Page under the same DNA Testing Adviser name.

Daniel Horowitz 

Daniel Horowitz, genealogy expert for MyHeritage, provides key contributions on product development and public affairs. He is a computer engineer with specialization in education, was the teacher and the study guide editor of the family history project "Searching for My Roots" in Venezuela for 15 years, and holds a board-level position at the Israel Genealogy Research Association (IGRA)

This lecture moves backwards from a death certificate to uncover someone who kept his tribal connections and name private. Calling All Experts - Research Help at Jamboree 2019

Research 
Assistants Needed!

For a number of years now, the So. Calif. Chapter of the Assoc. of Professional Genealogists has hosted the Research Assistance program at Jamboree. We have assisted hundreds of folks with one-on-one, short (20-minute) consultations. But we have not done it alone...we have enlisted the help of the genealogists near and far who are coming to the Jamboree (as an attendee or speaker) to give 30 minutes or more of their time to help folks find their family origins. If you have ever assisted another person (as a professional, volunteer, or just a friend) with genealogical research and have an area that you are relatively strong in, you qualify to be one of these consultants. Please sign up and indicate your area of expertise (anything from "beginning genealogy" to "technology" to a particular ethnicity or historic event). In a few weeks, the online sign-up will be opened to the public so we need a lot of folks, willing to donate some time. Note: if you do not know your schedule yet, you can volunteer as a walk-in consultant during the conference.

Daniel Earl

Daniel Earl got his start in family history at age 10 when his father took him to the grave of his great-grandfather; that sparked a lifetime of interest in family history. He has spent the last 25 years researching his own family history and helping others make history a part of their story.

Alice M Fairhurst

Alice M. Fairhurst, MS is President of the Southern California Genealogical Society and serves as Jamboree co-chair. From 2006 to 2015 she managed the International Society of Genetic Genealogy (ISOGG) Y-DNA Haplotree tree (www.isogg.org/tree) cited in many academic papers. Prior to retirement from JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory), she taught at Cal Poly Pomona and Glendale Community College. An avid genealogist, she first started recording her family stories when in grammar school and has traced her Scottish, Irish, and French roots back to the old country.

Colleen Greene, MLIS

Colleen Greene, MLIS, is a librarian, web developer, and educator. She is the marketing librarian for California State University, Fullerton, and teaches an online graduate-level genealogical methodology course for San Jose State University. Greene's teaching focuses on methodology; Mexican, Mexican-American, and Hispanic research; emerging technologies; and society marketing and communications.
