Drew Smith is a genealogy librarian with the University of South Florida Tampa Library. He has served on the boards of the Federation of Genealogical Societies and the Association of Professional Genealogists. Drew is host of the Genealogy Connection podcast, and co-host of The Genealogy Guys Podcast. He is co-author of Advanced Genealogy Research Techniques and author of Organize Your Genealogy: Strategies and Solutions for Every Researcher.

Your DNA Guide 

Sixteen years of experience in the genetic genealogy industry has qualified Diahan Southard to instruct all levels of interest. She has a passion for genetic genealogy, a genuine love for people, and a gift for making the technical understandable. Southard is also the author of "DNA Quick Guides", producer of a video tutorial series, as well as a featured author for Family Tree Magazine, regular contributor to Lisa Louise Cooke’s Genealogy Gems.

Michael L Strauss, AG® 

Michael L. Strauss, AG®, is a nationally recognized genealogical speaker. He has a BA in History and is a United States Coast Guard veteran. He is also a qualified expert witness in Court in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Additionally he is a faculty member at SLIG, GRIP, and IGHR where he serves as the course coordinator for all three military courses and is featured on Lisa Louise Cooke's "Genealogy Gems" Podcast featured with the "Military Minutes" episodes.

Paula Stuart-Warren, CG®, FMGS, FUGA 

Paula works full-time in genealogical and historical research, lecturing, consulting, & writing. She is an instructor for SLIG & GRIP, a past board member of FGS, a former officer of APG, & former board member of the Minnesota Genealogical Society. Her articles & lectures focus on unusual resources, manuscripts, methodology, analysis, repositories, & Native Americans. She is accessible for questions at presentations & enjoys assisting others.

Dave Dowell, PhD


David Dowell, PhD, was a librarian for 35 years and a special investigative officer in the USAF for 4 years and has two degrees in history and two in library science. He has researched family histories since the 1960s. His most recent books are NextGen Genealogy: The DNA Connection (2015) and Crash Course in Genealogy (2011). Previously he taught “Genealogy Research” and “Ethics in the Information Age” at Cuesta College and chaired the Genealogy Committee of the ALA. He blogs as “Dr. D Digs Up Ancestors” at http://blog.ddowell.com and coordinates three DNA projects.

Dr. Michael D. Lacopo is a retired small-animal veterinarian born and raised in northern Indiana. A self-described “all-American mutt,” his research skills cover a broad range, including German, Pennsylvania, genetic genealogy, and much more.

James M. Beidler Research


James M. Beidler, the author of The Family Tree Historical Newspapers Guide and two books on German genealogy, has written “Roots & Branches,” an award-winning weekly newspaper column on genealogy for two decades. He is also a columnist for German Life magazine and is editor of the MAGS journal, Der Kurier. Beidler is also an instructor for the online Family Tree University.
