Dave Dowell, PhD

David Dowell has two degrees in history and two in library science, as well as 35 years of experience as a librarian and 4 years as a special investigative officer in the USAF. He taught courses in U.S. genealogy research, European genealogy research and Ethics in the Information Age. He has chaired both the Ethics and Genealogy Committees of the American Library Association. As a member of the ISOGG, NGS, NEHGS, SCGS & MTGS, he coordinates 2 surname yDNA projects and a yDNA haplogroup project.

Peter Drinkwater has been working on genealogy websites including RootsWeb, Ancestry, Footnote, Fold3, and Newspapers.com for the past 20 years. He is currently the General Manager of Find A Grave.

Dan got his start in genealogy when he was ten years old. His dad took him to visit the grave of his great-grandfather. That event sparked a life long passion for genealogy. He has spent the last thirty years researching his own family and helping others make history a part of their story. He is a popular speaker and educator and has spoken to groups from coast to coast.

Crista Cowan

Ancestry

Crista Cowan has been employed by Ancestry since 2004; her involvement in family history, however, reaches all the way back to childhood. From being parked under a microfilm reader at the Family History Library in her baby carrier to her current career as a professional genealogist, Crista has spent thousands of hours discovering, documenting and telling family stories. She is known as the Barefoot Genealogist and has a weekly YouTube show designed to help people discover their family history.

Melinda Yamane Crawford

Melinda Yamane Crawford is a Southern California native and a UCSB employee for the last 18 years. She has been conducting family history research since 2002. She currently serves as a volunteer librarian at the Santa Barbara County Genealogical Society's Sahyun Library and is one of the co-founders of the Nikkei Genealogical Society (www.facebook.com/nikkeigen).

Schelly Talalay Dardashti

Journalist and genealogist Schelly Talalay Dardashti, the US Genealogy Advisor for MyHeritage, has traced her family across Spain, Belarus, Russia, Lithuania and Iran for some 30 years. The former Jerusalem Post genealogy columnist and award-winning pioneer Jewish geneablogger created “Tracing the Tribe – Jewish Genealogy on Facebook" (26,000+ members), and has written for FamilyTree Magazine, NGS Quarterly, JTA and others. She co-administers two DNA projects at FTDNA.

Most of us know we get half our autosomal DNA from each parent and about a fourth from each grandparent, etc. But does it really work that way? How much variation is there among siblings? How does this effect cousin matching and ethnicity predictions?

James M. Beidler Research

James M. He is also a columnist for German Life magazine and is editor of the MAGS journal, Der Kurier. Beidler is also an instructor for the online Family Tree University.
