With an exhaustive search resulting in negative evidence, the case can be proved of one person. This is a case study that introduces the Location and Timeline Analysis Chart (LoTAC). A native of central New York, Barbara discovered genealogy at Jamboree. Barbara is active in SCGS as the co- chair of the Jamboree Extension Series Webinars, facilitator of the Legacy Family Tree User group, librarian and Jamboree Committee member. She is also active in APG, NGS, Genealogical Speakers Guild, and the British Isles Family History Society-USA. Barbara presents workshops on a variety of genealogy topics. She is a DAR volunteer genealogist/consultant and writer.

This presentation discusses the Genealogical Proof Standard, document analysis and evaluation, and citation standards, and how to make them second nature in our genealogical research. 

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Sara Gredler, MS, is a genealogist, architectural historian, and historian with over 20 years of genealogical research experience. She is currently the president of the Williamson County (Texas) Genealogical Society and chair of its DNA SIG and NGSQ study group. She holds a MS in historic preservation, and BAs in history and classical studies, and a certificate in Irish studies.  She has attended GRIP for two years. Her research focuses are in New York, Massachusetts, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

Most of us know we get half our autosomal DNA from each parent and about a fourth from each grandparent, etc. But does it really work that way? How much variation is there among siblings? How does this effect cousin matching and ethnicity predictions? 

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
David Dowell, PhD, was a librarian for 35 years and a special investigative officer in the USAF for 4 years and has two degrees in history and two in library science. He has researched family histories since the 1960s. His most recent books are NextGen Genealogy: The DNA Connection (2015) and Crash Course in Genealogy (2011). Previously he taught “Genealogy Research” and “Ethics in the Information Age” at Cuesta College and chaired the Genealogy Committee of the ALA. He blogs as “Dr. D Digs Up Ancestors” at http://blog.ddowell.com and coordinates three DNA projects.
