The Tech Zone at Jamboree is a specially designed room equipped with computers where you can explore some of the most popular paid subscription websites. You'll definitely want to save a few minutes out of your busy Jamboree schedules to try out some of these great resources!

JamboFREE 
Thursday sessions are free to the public as part of the SCGS mission to "...provide instruction in accepted and effective research techniques." 

Pink and Blue Sheets 
The most important tool you will use during the weekend. Legal-sized pink (Jamboree) or blue (Genetic Genealogy and Family History) sheets give you the full conference schedule, information on parking, scanning, book signings, food and a map of the Marriott.

Syllabus
All paid registered attendees receive a free digital syllabus that includes all three conferences. Printed copies are available for purchase while quantities last. Syllabus handouts are available on the Jamboree App when authorized by the speaker. Copyright laws apply.

Bag Inserts -  Don’t throw away those Show Specials!
We’ve asked every Exhibitor to offer you a show special that beats anything you can get on the internet.  Many have put their show specials on their conference bag flyers. So, don’t just chuck those papers in the nearest bin!  Take a moment to see who has the special you’ve been waiting for … maybe one you haven’t thought of yet!

• Social Media Lounge in the Exhibit Hall - Perfect posting place! Stay tuned for tomorrow's blog post for important details!

• Network, talk to your neighbors, the speakers, exhibitors, and vendors and say "hi". Don't forget to bring along plenty of business cards to exchange with everyone.

Volunteer
Jamboree volunteers are a special lot. They have devoted time and effort to bring you the best conference possible. Stop by the Volunteer station to join in the fun! If it weren't for the volunteers, there wouldn't be a Jamboree! 

Research Database Tech Zone
Explore some of the most popular paid subscription websites for FREE! Stop by the Tech Research Zone in the Jamboree Research Hallway Friday, June 1st, between 9am - 6pm and Saturday, June 2nd between 9am - 4:30 pm and take a test drive.

Seating Policy 
Seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis. Seats cannot be saved within 3 minutes of the start of a session. Once a session is full to capacity, no one will be allowed to enter (fire marshall rules). 

Be Kind 

Jamboree draws family historians and genealogists, volunteers, speakers, exhibitors from all over. Everyone is trying to have a great conference. Treating one another as we would like to be treated will ensure that we all have a great experience.

The Tech Zone is a special area that is equipped with computers and free access to a number of paid subscription websites. Maybe you've been thinking about paying for a subscription but didn't want to buy it until you tried it. Or maybe a speaker mentioned one of these during a presentation and you want to use it to look up something for yourself.

Save a few minutes out of your busy weekend to try out these databases and  some of the resources that you may not have access to at home.

Tech Zone stations are first come, first served. Each user will be limited to 30 minutes. No food or drink is permitted in the Tech Zone. Volunteers will be on duty to assist you in using these valuable resources.

Jamboree: Take a Test Drive in the Tech Zone

A popular event at the past Jamborees has been our Tech Zone. Here's a place where you can test-drive many paid databases. You can also try a new search technique or resource that you've just learned about in a session.

For 2012, the Tech Zone will be found in Room 129 in the High-Tech Hallway, which is located inside the East Tower of the Marriott, directly across the hall from the elevators and workout room. Look for signs.

Help SCGS by Shopping and Swiping at Ralphs

As I was leaving Ralphs the other day, I noticed that they were asking customers to upgrade their Ralphs Rewards cards. That reminded me that I had registered my card so that a percentage of my shopping would be donated to SCGS.  I looked at the bottom of my receipt and saw the familiar "SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA GENEALOGICAL" (see photo) as confirmation that I had correctly registered.

The amount donated to SCGS is based on the total amount of a customer's quarterly spending as shown below.

1% - Up to $200                              
2% - Between $200.01 and $350 
3% - Between $350.01 and $500  
4% - Over $500                                

Ralphs contributes a maximum of $750,000 quarterly to be distributed among all participating eligible organizations. This is a valuable source of funding to aid SCGS in meeting its financial commitments. Per Ralphs, periodic re-registration is required so make sure to check the bottom of your receipt each time your shop.

Help SCGS earn the maximum donation per quarter by registering your card on-line (detailed instructions).

Go to www.ralphs.com and log into your account
Click "My Account"
Verify the Ralphs Rewards Card Information is correct
Edi your Community Rewards Information by typing "SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA GENEALOGICAL" into the search box.

(NOTE: may take 72 hours to reflect registration)

You can also stop by the Tech Zone at Jamboree to register.
