[CA--SCGS] New Member Resource--Courtesy of FamilySearch!

Great news from FamilySearch for SCGS members!

As of October 1, 2017, the SCGS Library continues our affiliation with the LDS Family History Library by offering full computer access to all of the digitalized records that FamilySearch offers through their website familysearch.org. What a great benefit, since the microfilms are no longer available for rent!

How does that work? Come to the SCGS library and use our library computers to unlock all the digitalized records found on FamilySearch.org. But there's a catch--you have to be a member of SCGS to use our computers.

Not a member? Come in and join SCGS, and you will receive additional members-only benefits and discounts (such as discounted rates at Jamboree 2018!).

Marriott Hotel Advisory - Make Your Hotel Reservation Now

Planning on attending the 48th Annual Southern California Genealogy Jamboree and Genetic Genealogy 2017 conferences and looking for a place to stay?

The best advice we can offer based on experience: RESERVE YOUR ROOM NOW!

It's a proven fact that well over half of all Jamboree attendees stay overnight at least one night at a local hotel. Most choose to stay at the official conference venue, the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel.

Jamboree room rates at the Marriott are $169 per night for a standard room and $189 per night for Concierge level rooms.

Why not treat yourself and upgrade to Concierge Level?

The Burbank Marriott's Concierge Level, located in the East Tower, offers Jamboree attendees both larger rooms than those in the hotel's West Tower and the convenience of closer proximity to the Convention Center. Rooms are available with one king or two double beds, and some connecting rooms are available for those with larger parties or those who like to party with others. Included with all Concierge Level rooms is access to a private business center and turn down service, if desired.

The Concierge Level comes with all-day access to the Concierge Lounge where you can find fuel to help you stay in top form all day long. The lounge serves breakfast daily until 9 am, hot and cold beverages and light munchies throughout the day, hors d'oeuvres between 5 pm and 7 pm, and a dessert bar from 7 pm to 9 pm. Although Jamboree gains no advantage if you book a concierge room, we recommend these as a "good buy" both in terms of offsetting food expenses, location, general amenities, and convenience.

To make your room reservations online visit http://tinyurl.com/2017JamboHotel

*Hint: when booking online, if one night of the stay is full at the level you are trying to reserve, the computer might reflect as rooms unavailable. If that happens, it is best to call the Marriott directly to make your reservation, at (818) 843-6000 or (800) 736-9712. Be sure to mention the group "SCGS Conference" in order to get the Jamboree rates and guarantee your room.

Want to $ave?

Marriott has a fantastic Rewards program. It takes just a moment to sign up for a Marriott Rewards membership, it doesn't cost a cent, and you don't need to provide a credit card number. Even if you stay at Marriott only once this year, at Jamboree, your Marriott Rewards card can save you money. To take advantage of the Rewards programs and amenities, you need to make your reservation online, by phone or in person at a Marriott or Ritz-Carlton hotel. (Reservations made through AAA, Priceline or other booking websites would not qualify.)

Join Marriott Rewards here. Read about the Benefits of Marriott Rewards. Marriott Rewards includes free wifi.

If you want to reduce your lodging costs, consider sharing a room with a fellow genealogist. Jamboree offers a roommate matching service for those who wish to reduce lodging expenses.

If you are interested in such an arrangement, please send an email to roommate@scgsgenealogy.com.

Please include your name, dates of attendance, and tell us a little about yourself (gender, late/early riser, if you suffer from allergies, etc).
