Jamboree 2019 Social Media and Conference Policies

SCGS JAMBOREE LOVES SOCIAL MEDIA

The Jamboree Committee welcomes and encourages the use of social media at our Conferences and invites you to broadcast and post to the social media platforms of your choice with these guidelines:

  • Attendees, Speakers, and Exhibitors are encouraged to post to Facebook and other social media, including live-streaming demos and interviews, from the Jamboree Exhibit Hall and any public area of the Marriott conference center and hotel.
  • In accordance with the published Jamboree Social Media and Recording policies, no recordings are allowed during the speaker sessions.
  • Attendees, if you wish to take pictures or live stream an interview with a speaker, please get their permission first, and move out of the speaking room when the next speaker arrives.
  • Exhibitors and Speakers, please keep live-streaming of your demos to less than 20 minutes. Encourage attendees, and future attendees to see you in person.
  • Respect copyright law and reference or cite any author, exhibitor or speaker appropriately. Use the official hashtag – #SCGS2019 – and @scgsgenealogy on all posts.
  • Please mention “Live from the Genealogy Jamboree 50th Birthday Bash” and invite your local listeners to "come on by". The Exhibit Hall is free all weekend.
  • Be courteous and aware of other exhibitors, speakers, and attendees around you. Our hotel, conference center, and exhibit hall are “intimate” and we all need the best learning environment possible.

ABOUT THE PRESENTATION
Researching your family history in England and Wales has never been easier. Many digitized church records, census records and wills are online. Rick will demonstrate some of the key sites for British genealogy, many of which are free.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
A contributing editor for Family Tree Magazine, Rick Crume has also written for Family Chronicle, Internet Genealogy, Discovering Family History, the National Genealogical Society’s NewsMagazine and the Minnesota Genealogist, as well as genealogical journals in Canada and Great Britain. Calling All Experts - Research Help at Jamboree 2019

    Research
    Assistants Needed!

For a number of years now, the So. Calif. Chapter of the Assoc. of Professional Genealogists has hosted the Research Assistance program at Jamboree. We have assisted hundreds of folks with one-on-one, short (20-minute) consultations. But we have not done it alone...we have enlisted the help of the genealogists near and far who are coming to the Jamboree (as an attendee or speaker) to give 30 minutes or more of their time to help folks find their family origins. If you have ever assisted another person (as a professional, volunteer, or just a friend) with genealogical research and have an area that you are relatively strong in, you qualify to be one of these consultants. Please sign up and indicate your area of expertise (anything from "beginning genealogy" to "technology" to a particular ethnicity or historic event). In a few weeks, the online sign-up will be opened to the public so we need a lot of folks, willing to donate some time. Note: if you do not know your schedule yet, you can volunteer as a walk-in consultant during the conference.

    Jean Wilcox Hibben, PhD, MA,
    Riverside County, California
President, So. California Chapter, Assoc. of Prof. Genealogists
1st VP, webmaster; Corona (CA) Genealogical Society

The Erie Canal and the Opening of the Midwest.

    FREE WEBINAR from SCGS
Wednesday, May 15, 2019, 6:00 PM (Pacific Time)

    ABOUT THE PRESENTATION
The Erie Canal revolutionized 19th-century travel and offered our ancestors a high-speed route to the Midwest. It made settlement of the Old Northwest Territories economically possible by providing an efficient means of exporting agricultural products to the markets and ports of the east. But it was also one of the most challenging and fascinating projects ever undertaken in America.

    ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Annette Burke Lyttle is a professional genealogist specializing in online and repository research, and genealogical education and writing. She loves helping people find and tell their family stories.
