The Southern California Genealogical Society [SCGS] announces its Call for Presentations for its 2021 VIRTUAL conferences and events. This Call pertains to the Genetic Genealogy, Jamboree, and Webinar Series Programs. Presentations will only be accepted through the online portal September 1, 2020 - September 30, 2020.

SCGS Jamboree draws attendees of all experience levels from first timers to conference veterans. The Jamboree Extension Series attracts an international audience comprised of all skill levels. We encourage the submissions of all levels of lectures; all topics will be considered. New presentations are encouraged. Presentations may include the following topics:

Paul Woodbury 
Legacy Tree Genealogists 

Paul Woodbury is a graduate of BYU where he studied genetics and genealogy. He also has a master’s degree in instructional design and educational technology from the University of Utah. Woodbury currently works at Legacy Tree Genealogists. He specializes in genetic genealogy, but also loves French, Spanish, Italian and Scandinavian genealogy. He researches and presents regularly in these fields and loves to share his knowledge with his students and clients.

Angela Walton-Raji, BA, MEd 

Angela Walton-Raji is nationally known as a genealogist, lecturer and blogger. Richard is the Executive Vice President and Director of Programs at DNAAdoption. He is an experienced genetic genealogist and adoption search angel, avid motorcyclist, ballroom dancer, and retired Naval Officer. Richard has co-led successful Y-DNA and atDNA research projects in both his adoptive and birth families. Mary Anne Vincent has been an educator most of her adult life. She began researching her family tree after attending a Jamboree in 1971. Anne Gillespie Mitchell 
Ancestry 

Anne is a Product Manager at Ancestry working on Ancestry Library, K12, and RootsWeb. She has taught at SLIG and TIGR. She has lectured for more than a decade on genealogy topics and has developed multiple courses for Ancestry Academy and written and produced many of the short videos on the site. Anne’s passion for history and computers have merged into a lifelong fascination for genealogy and developing methodologies to discover important clues and stories found in historical documents.

Dave Obee 

Dave Obee has written a dozen books on genealogy and history and has given more than 600 presentations in Canada, the United States and Australia since 1997. He is publisher of the daily newspaper in Victoria, British Columbia and is a member of the services consultation committee at Library and Archives Canada in Ottawa. Dave is a columnist for two genealogy magazines and is a member of the board of Canada’s History Society, which promotes the teaching of history in Canada.

New Jamboree Speaker - Notice of Change

Notice of Jamboree Speaker Change

The Jamboree committee works hard to make sure you have the best possible speakers and presentations. When contracts were signed in the fall of 2018, the committee understood that our speakers may need to alter this commitment due to extenuating circumstances. When this happens, we go out of our way to replace this special speaker with a highly qualified substitute.

Cheri Mello began dabbling in genealogy as a 5th grader with the U.S. History assignment. She began her active adult research over 25 years ago, after the death of her remaining grandparents. Her expertise ranges from various areas of America, to Portugal, as well as DNA, genealogy software, Find A Grave, and more!

Susan R Miller 
Susan R. Miller is the Director of Programs and Outreach for the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society (NYG&B). She is the editor of the award-winning New York Researcher, the NYG&B’s member magazine, a managing editor of the New York Family History Research Guide and Gazetteer. She has attended GRIP and numerous genealogy conferences. Sue lectures at regional and national programs. Outside of genealogy, Sue is a life-long sailor and a past Commodore of the Manhasset Bay Yacht Club.
