Jamie Lee McManus Mayhew, a California native, is a family genealogist, genealogical educator, occasional blogger, and professional researcher. She is active in numerous societies and organizations and has served as president of the California State Genealogical Alliance, Southern California Chapter APG, and the Genealogical Society of North Orange County California.

Kathy Meade is the North American representative for ArkivDigital, an online service that provides access to the Swedish historical records.

Cheri Mello, MA 
Cheri Mello began dabbling in genealogy as a 5th grader with the U.S. History assignment. She began her active adult research over 25 years ago, after the death of her remaining grandparents. Her expertise ranges from various areas of America, to Portugal, as well as DNA, genealogy software, Find A Grave, and more!

Susan R Miller 
Susan R. Miller is the Director of Programs and Outreach for the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society (NYG&B). She is the editor of the award-winning New York Researcher, the NYG&B’s member magazine, a managing editor of the New York Family History Research Guide and Gazetteer. She has attended GRIP and numerous genealogy conferences. Sue lectures at regional and national programs. Outside of genealogy, Sue is a life-long sailor and a past Commodore of the Manhasset Bay Yacht Club.

It's a great time to be researching your Irish Ancestors! Although the loss of records at the Public Records Office in 1922 was devastating new records are becoming available almost weekly from multiple sources.


ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Donna Moughty has been conducting family research for over 25 years. She teaches and lectures on the Internet, Irish research, methodology and computer topics locally and at national and regional conferences and institutes. In addition, she provides consultations, research assistance and training.  Donna takes groups to Ireland each year to research and is the author of the "Quick Reference Guides for Irish Research."  Her blog can be found at www.moughty.com.

Sneak Peek - A Celebration of African American History

The 50th Jamboree Birthday Bash is excited to offer a full conference track tailored for African American Research at our 50th Annual Southern California Genealogy Jamboree and the Genetic Genealogy Conferences. Speakers will include: Janice Lovelace, PhD, Nicka Smith, Tony Burroughs, FUGA, Annette Burke-Lyttle, and Angela Walton-Raji, MEd.


They will present on a variety of specialized topics designed to assist researchers to overcome brick walls, trace elusive African American ancestors, both genealogically and genetically. In addition to the class sessions, genealogical societies, exhibitors, and vendors will be on hand in the exhibit hall to answer your questions and help guide you. The Exhibit Hall is open through the weekend and FREE.

Janice Lovelace, PhD 
Janice Lovelace, PhD, is a genealogical researcher, author and lecturer, with over thirty years of experience. Dr. Lovelace is a frequent speaker at national and regional genealogy conferences on health and genetics, ethnic minority genealogy, and research methodology. She authored the National Genealogical Society’s continuing education course "African American Roots: A Historical Perspective."

Annette Burke Lyttle is a professional genealogist specializing in online and repository research, and genealogical education and writing. She loves helping people find and tell their family stories.

Thomas MacEntee is a genealogy professional based in the United States, specializing in the use of technology and social media to improve genealogy research and as a way to connect with others in the family history community.

Philipp M Mayer 
ProStamm 
Philipp Mayer was born in Bavaria, Germany. He graduated from Calif. State University, Long Beach with a BS in engineering. His interest in genealogy started with his parents in the mid-1980s and has continued since. Mayer is a compulsive organizer and presenter of family information. He is an author and developer of the new internet genealogy program, ProStamm, which was launched early June 2017.

Museum and Research Tours at Jamboree 2019

MUSEUM AND RESEARCH TOURS



NETHERCUTT MUSEUM AND COLLECTION TOUR
THURSDAY, MAY 30, 8:15 AM - 1:00 PM

This year's tour takes us to the Nethercutt Museum and Collection located in Sylmar, California. The museum is housed in two buildings and includes over 250 classic cars and mechanical musical instruments. We will be accompanied on the tour by a museum docent. In addition, SCGS member Joel Fritsche (a retired Disney Imagineer with car building experiences) will share knowledge and add commentary.

Transportation is included. The tour meets at the NW corner of the Marriott Convention Center.

Please note: There are no eating facilities onsite. Bottled water is allowed. Lunch will be available for purchase on the green between the Marriott Hotel and Convention Center until 3pm. The Daily Grill and across-the-street informal dining options serve all day.

Pre-registration is required for this separate fee event. In the event that the trip is canceled due to low attendance, your tour registration fee will be refunded.




SCGS RESEARCH TOUR
FRIDAY, MAY 31, 8:15 AM - 12:00 PM

This is a wonderful opportunity to visit the Southern California Genealogical Society's Library. With over 40,000 volumes, the SCGS Library holds one of the most extensive genealogical collections in the southwestern United States. The collections include family histories, periodicals, maps, microfilm as well as vital records, cemetery records, local and state histories. Online databases and computers will be available for use. Staff members will be giving site tours and are there to help and answer questions.

Transportation is included. The tour meets at the NW corner of the Marriott Convention Center.

Feel free to arrange your own private transportation if you want a more flexible schedule. The SCGS Family Research Library is about 1.5 miles from the Marriott, and driving instructions are available in the Convention Center. Taxis are available at the Marriott hotel main entrance.

Pre-registration is required for this separate fee event. In the event that the trip is canceled due to low attendance, your tour registration fee will be refunded.

Devon Noel Lee 
Family History Fanatics 
Author, speaker, and family historian, Devon Noel Lee specializes in preserving and sharing family memories and motivating budding genealogists. With over 20 years experience in genealogy, she is a high energy speaker who is part of the Family History Fanatics channel which posts videos twice weekly on YouTube.

Marisa Louie Lee 
Marisa Louie Lee is a fifth-generation Chinese American from the San Francisco Bay Area. She is an avid researcher and genealogist who specializes in federal records. She currently works for the San Mateo County Libraries and previously served as an archivist at the National Archives. She also worked in programs and exhibitions at the Chinese Historical Society of America. Periodically she shares her research insights in training workshops and presentations on genealogy.

Denise May Levenick, MA 
The Family Curator
Denise May Levenick, MA, is a native Californian, author and lecturer with research interests in personal and family collections. She writes about preserving heirlooms at TheFamilyCurator.com.

Dvorah Lewis, MLIS 
Sutro Library, California State Library 
Dvorah Lewis has been the Genealogy Librarian at Sutro Library for two years now. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in Jewish Studies at UC Irvine and earned her Master's (MLIS) at UCLA. Her passion for archives and genealogy was inspired by an interview with her great Aunt Essie, the then eldest member of her family. She is excited to help genealogy researchers learn how to navigate the State Library’s extraordinary collections and resources.

She volunteers as a regional and national representative for the Guild of One-Name Studies, and serves on the Guild's marketing team. She also writes for The In-Depth Genealogist.
