ABOUT THE PRESENTATION
In this presentation we consider the broad elements of researching a European surname and then expand outwards to include other important factors such as culture, geography, borders and links with other areas outside of Europe, including the influence of European Empires. We too explore religion, history, languages including alphabet and dialects. We further address naming patterns across Europe.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Julie Goucher has been a keen genealogist since the late 1980s, and has a special interest in Italian and European family history. She is a published author and writes regularly for a number of genealogical magazines and journals. She is also the tutor for the Pharos course, Introduction to One-Name Studies.

Sheila Benedict is a forensic and family genealogist, lecturer, and archivist. Topics include migrations, methodology, Catholic records, California, forensic genealogy, Irish-Americans, California Historic Missions, and more. She writes a monthly genealogy column for the Santa Ynez Valley Star newspaper.

ABOUT THE PRESENTATION
This class will explore the enlistment of the United States Colored Troops with the Union Army and their roles in serving during the Civil War.  The instructor will discuss the various databases available for searching for the records of possible ancestors who served. Burial, Memorial and Museum locations will also be discussed.


ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Karen Burney has over 30 years of genealogical experience and teaches classes on various genealogical topics. She also comes from a legal and investigation background which she utilizes to sleuth for hidden and hard to find records. Karen has traced her own roots back 7-8 generations on several of her ancestral lines and currently has a book pending publication. She is the Founder of the Roots Exchange and Education Society (TREES) and maintains Louisiana Lineage Legacies Facebook page and blog.

Donna Moughty has been conducting family research for over 25 years. She teaches and lectures on the Internet, Irish research, methodology and computer topics locally and at national and regional conferences and institutes. In addition, she provides consultations, research assistance and training.  Donna takes groups to Ireland each year to research and is the author of the "Quick Reference Guides for Irish Research."  Her blog can be found at www.moughty.com.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Paul Woodbury is a graduate of BYU where he studied genetics and genealogy. He also has a master’s degree in instructional design and educational technology from the University of Utah. Woodbury currently works at Legacy Tree Genealogists. He specializes in genetic genealogy, but also loves French, Spanish, Italian and Scandinavian genealogy. He researches and presents regularly in these fields and loves to share his knowledge with his students and clients.

Epidemics, and Pandemics all affected our ancestors, either directly or indirectly. Lifestyles were altered by major illnesses. Politics, religion, and economics all played a part in eradicating these scourges from our predecessors’ lives, as well as how they affect your research. Funeral and cemetery records, as well as the ways of handling the dead, will also be discussed.


ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Jean Wilcox Hibben, PhD. Retired college professor and former Board-Certified genealogist, Jean Wilcox Hibben has a Master's in speech communication and a PhD in folklore. A national speaker and writer, Jean is the staff trainer for the Corona Family History Center and President of both the Corona Gen Soc and the So Calif Chapter of APG. Jean’s podcasts on social history are available at genjourneys.podbean.com. She has been a Jamboree presenter since 2010.

This presentation discusses the Genealogical Proof Standard, document analysis and evaluation, and citation standards, and how to make them second nature in our genealogical research. 

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Sara Gredler, MS, is a genealogist, architectural historian, and historian with over 20 years of genealogical research experience. She is currently the president of the Williamson County (Texas) Genealogical Society and chair of its DNA SIG and NGSQ study group. She holds a MS in historic preservation, and BAs in history and classical studies, and a certificate in Irish studies.  She has attended GRIP for two years. Her research focuses are in New York, Massachusetts, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

Retired associate professor and archivist from GA State Univ.  Peter has a B.A. in art history from Emory Univ. and an M.A.T. in museum education from The George Washington Univ. He has had an interest in genealogy since 1975 and has been exploring genetic genealogy since 2003. He is the admin of the Bahamas DNA Project and the Roberts and Sasser surname DNA projects.  He is a past Atlanta area regional coordinator for ISOGG and an leader of WikiTree's DNA Project and Bahamas Project.
