New SCGS Conference and Library Policies

We are living in a time when certain policies need to be acknowledged and adhered to.  It is essential at SCGS that we provide you with the expectations of enjoyment in our library and while attending our conferences.  Please read our policies, as they define our guidelines for a successful conference, in all lectures, and during any SCGS library experience.  We thank you in advance for reading and abiding by these new rules and regulations.

Thank You

The SCGS Board Of Directors

NON DISCRIMINATION POLICY

Southern California Genealogical Society is dedicated to providing an environment free from discrimination where everyone is treated with respect and dignity. Discrimination is a sociological term referring to the prejudicial treatment of an individual based solely on their membership (whether voluntary or involuntary) in a certain group or category. Discrimination is the actual behavior towards members of another group. It involves excluding or restricting members of one group from opportunities that are available to other groups.
Southern California Genealogical Society does not engage in or endorse discrimination, harassment, and bullying against any person for any reason due to age, ancestry, color, disability or handicap, national origin, race, religion, gender, sexual or affectional orientation, gender identity, genetic information, appearance, political affiliation, marital status, veteran status, or any other characteristic prohibited by state or local law.
In addition, Southern California Genealogical Society will not fund or participate in specific events, as a vendor, speaker or in other roles, in which individuals are barred from access to services due to such discrimination.
This policy was created based on a similar policy at Abundant Genealogy and is used by permission.

SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY

The Southern California Genealogical Society is an active supporter of the use of social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, and blogging) at its events, including the society' annual Genealogy Jamboree. Event attendees are allowed and encouraged to promote, critique, and review the conference, its exhibitors, speakers, and activities using these forms of media.
Use of smartphones, notebooks, laptops, tablets, etc., shall not disrupt other attendees. Mobile device ringers must be set to silent during lecture sessions.
Attendees are prohibited from recording the proceedings of any lecture or workshop session by any means, including but not limited to photography, audio recording, video recording, or verbatim transcription, without expressed written permission from both SCGS and the lecture speaker. Some sessions will be professionally audio recorded and available for purchase after the event.
Social media may be used to summarize or extract lecture content provided:
(1) the author is referenced and cited appropriately; and
(2) the material is not shared in full.
We fully respect the intellectual property rights of the authors of syllabus materials and lecture content. Copyright laws apply.
