Jamboree 2016 Speaker Spotlight: Fritz Juengling, PhD, AG

Fritz Juengling, Ph.D., AG, received his Bachelor's degrees in International Studies with a German emphasis and Secondary Education from Western Oregon University, both with Honors. He received his Masters and Ph.D. in Germanic Philology from the University of Minnesota. He is an Accredited Genealogist and is a Research Consultant on the International floor of the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, where he specializes in German, Dutch, and Scandinavian research.

Attendees will be introduced to the history of Germans in Russia, especially those events that affect genealogical research. Websites for locating records and other resources will be discussed. Level: All.

SA022   German Names: Their Origins, Meanings, and Distribution 
Attendees will learn about the origins, meanings, and distribution of German names, including how an understanding of regional variants can help identify a general area of origin for some names. Attendees will also be introduced to resources that may help identify present-day distribution of names that might help in identifying origin of the name and living relatives. Level: All.
