All paid registered attendees receive a digital syllabus that includes all three conferences. Printed copies are available for purchase while quantities last. Syllabus handouts are available on the Jamboree App when authorized by the speaker. Copyright laws apply.

Bag Inserts - Don’t throw away those Show Specials!
We’ve asked every Exhibitor to offer you a show special that beats anything you can get on the Internet.  Many have put their show specials on their conference bag flyers. So, don’t just chuck those papers in the nearest bin!  Take a moment to see who has the special you’ve been waiting for … maybe one you haven’t thought of yet!

• Social Media - Join the fun on Twitter using #SCGSJamboree2019, or #SCGS2019 @scgsgenealogy, or post to the Jamboree Facebook page. We love Jamboree selfies! 

• Social Media Selfie Stand - Perfect posting place to take photos, conduct an interview or live stream!

• Network, talk to your neighbors, the speakers, exhibitors, and vendors and say "hi". Don't forget to bring along plenty of business cards to exchange with everyone.

Volunteer
Jamboree volunteers are a special lot. They have devoted time and effort to bring you the best conference possible. Stop by the Volunteer station to join in the fun! If it weren't for the volunteers, there wouldn't be a Jamboree!

Seating Policy 
Seating is on a first come, first seated basis. Seats cannot be saved within 3 minutes of the start of a session. Once a session is full to capacity, no one will be allowed to enter (fire marshall rules). 

Be Kind 

Jamboree draws family historians and genealogists, volunteers, speakers, exhibitors from all over. Everyone is trying to have a great conference. Treating one another as we would like to be treated will ensure that we all have a great experience.

Late Registration
Walk-Ins are welcome. You can register onsite through our Kiosk onsite. Workshops and meals will be available for purchase depending on availability.

Parking
Jamboree has negotiated a discounted parking fee of $15.00 in the Marriott lot. Your Jamboree or Genetic Genealogy badge is your ticket to the discount. Just show it at the kiosk on the way out.

Jamboree 2017 - What's in YOUR Luggage?

It's almost showtime for the Genetic Genealogy and Jamboree 2017 conferences!

We want to make sure everyone has the best time possible, so we have some tips to help you pack.

June is traditionally associated with summer and fun - so plan accordingly! Mornings and evenings in Southern California can be cool with a layer of what we call "June Gloom." Never fear, though - it burns off and temperatures can rise dramatically when the sun comes out. Just be prepared. Conference room temperatures can also vary, so prepare to layer to adjust accordingly.

Things to Bring to Jamboree

• Comfortable clothes. Sessions and workshops are not formal, so please bring or wear something that you feel good in, and can move about in. Think business casual. This includes comfortable shoes and a light jacket, sweater or wrap in case the rooms are cool. Don't forget your favorite tee shirt, hat, kilt, tartan, tiara, superhero cape, mask or whatever you've chosen for the "Heroes and Villains" Contest on Sunday! 

• Address labels and business cards. Bring pre-printed labels to make filling out contest forms in the Exhibit Hall and elsewhere a snap. Business cards for networking come in handy - especially if you put surnames on them (hint: cousin bait!).

• Hi-Tech Gear. Bring your smartphone, tablet, laptop, digital camera, and whatever else you rely on, as well as any chargers you need. Make sure you've downloaded the App (from the App store or from Google Play), planned your schedule (a primary and a backup session for each hour just in case), and plotted out your tour of the Exhibit Hall and special activities. 

• Low-Tech Alternatives. We know you live in the digital age, but there may come a time when your phone or tablet is low on power, and the electrical sockets are nowhere in sight. You don't want to miss out on anything - so be prepared. Bring a pen and a notebook. We promise - writing will not hurt you! If you need help, the Jamboree team will be on hand to calm your nerves

• Personal Items. As with any trip, don't forget your medications or anything you need on a daily basis - like extra glasses, your debit/credit cards, and money. We know you may love your favorite fragrance, so we ask that, out of consideration for the others in the conference, you leave your perfume at home so you don't trigger allergy sneezes from the people around you. And please, leave your valuables at home. There's no place to check them in.

• Genealogy. This is, after all, a genealogy conference. You might run into a cousin or two - be ready with those family group sheets or pedigree charts. Also, take a look at the exhibitors and the research assistance opportunities...you might want to bring your brick wall and any information you think will help others help you.

Jamboree Registration Navigation Tips

This is a new registration system. We know that change is often scary, and that you might have questions. Through rigorous testing, we came up with a list of the most likely questions or scenarios that might occur. You can find more complete information on the Registration FAQ page on the Jamboree website. 

Tip: Testers found that having a copy either on another printed version of the FAQ nearby helpful while registering.

Question:  Why did SCGS and Jamboree change the registration system?

Answer: SCGS wanted to improve the Jamboree registration system in two ways. First, to allow registrants control of their own registration allowing them to return to their registration account and change or add events, or update contact information, as they desired. Secondly, we wanted to take advantage of third-party credit card processing. That means, whether you use PayPal or enter your credit card directly into the Jamboree online registration system, your credit card information is handled by a secure process in line with the best industry standards.

Question: Do you get a discount as an SCGS member?

Answer: YES! Special pricing for 2017 offers a discount to those who register for both Jamboree and the Genetic Genealogy Conference, as well as discounts for SCGS members for each event. 

Question: Can I buy a membership when I register?

Answer: No + Yes. No, not from within the online registration program. Yes - if you open another window, go to https://new.scgsgenealogy.com/ and buy/renew your membership. When you return to the Jamboree registration program, you will then be recognized as a member.

Question: Where are the prices?

Answer: When you click on Register Now and begin the registration process, you will see all the prices listed. If you want to see prices prior to starting online registration, we do have a mail-in form that lists all the prices. Click Register by Mail-In & Phone and you will have a downloadable pdf you can reference when making your selections.

Question: What happens if I realize I made a mistake and registered for the wrong things?

Answer: Once you have completed your registration, you will receive a confirmation email. You can either use the link on your confirmation email or you use the link to register on the Jamboree website and revise your registration.

Question: I just registered and forgot to sign up for a banquet? Can I add this on?

Answer: Yes! Log in using the link sent via the confirmation email or on the Jamboree website. You will see a screen listing the Registrant/Type/Edit. Under Edit there is a link for Conference Choices. Click that and add what you forgot. IMPORTANT: you must click Finish at the end of the transaction. If you do not, nothing will be captured.

Question: HELP! Is there someone I can talk to that can help me?

Answer: Yes. Please call the SCGS Library during business hours (click here for hours). Please tell the librarian on duty that you need help with registration and give your contact information. A member of the Jamboree Registration Team will be in touch.

As members of the Jamboree committee have been out and about representing SCGS and the conference, many first-time attendees have asked if we had some tips on how to maximize their conference experience.

Genealogy conferences are a great place to learn new skills, network with fellow researchers and review new products and services. Whether you are attending for the first time or are a conference veteran, a successful conference depends on your experience at that conference,

You could spend hours searching out information on how to improve your conference experience. To make it easier for you, we have listed links previous Jamboree blog posts and other articles to assist you in improving your conference experience. Although the posts were written a while ago, they contain valuable and relevant information for 2016 (thank you to former Jamboree co-chair, past SCGS Officer and board member Paula Hinkel for compiling the information and making it available to everyone).

There are many articles written by bloggers, speakers, and conference attendees. A simple Internet search for "tips for attending a genealogy conference" brings up some great links. Please check them out. There are a lot of great tips out there. We've posted some of them on the Jamboree website for you (bottom right column, under "More Insights").

If it weren't for the volunteers, there would not be a Jamboree. Full disclosure: the author of this post is also the volunteer coordinator.  She may be a little biased, but she thinks the Jamboree volunteers are THE BEST group of friendly, talented and fun people she knows.  Come join the fun.  You'll even get a ribbon!

8. Safety First - Always make sure you have all of your belongings and watch your step! Room monitors and other volunteers will be on their toes to make sure that everyone is safe. Please report any issues or concerns immediately to one of the Jamboree managers or Marriott staff. Thank you for your cooperation.
