The laws our ancestors lived by tell the story of those earlier times in ways no other record type can, and California's early laws tell of setting up archives, paying the bills, and carving out a new life in the new state. This lecture looks at finding and using California’s rich and deep legal resources from colonial times into statehood.
The Legal Genealogist Judy G. Russell is a
genealogist with a law degree who writes and
lectures on topics ranging from using court records in family history to understanding DNA testing. On the faculty of numerous genealogy institutes, she is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Board for Certification of Genealogists, from which
