The Immigrant Genealogical Society (IGS) was founded in North Hollywood, California in 1982 to help Americans trace their ancestors’ origins, particularly in the German-speaking areas of Europe. In July 1989, the Society moved its headquarters to Burbank where it conducts its business as a California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation. All society activities are carried out by member volunteers.
