Urgent News Flash - Conference Hotel SOLD OUT

An important update regarding room availability at the Marriott

Take a deep breath...If you’re planning on staying overnight while you attend the Southern California Genealogy Jamboree and Genetic Genealogy 2016 conferences, and you haven’t made your hotel reservations yet, then you might want to stop what you are doing and read through the end of this blog post.

Every year, Jamboree reserves blocks of rooms at the Marriott at both the regular hotel and concierge levels.  We try, as early as January, to advise everyone that both the conference rates and the rooms will book quickly. 

Here’s where we stand at the moment

All Jamboree rooms at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel are sold out, for both regular SCGS conference rooms and SCGS concierge rooms Wednesday, June 1 - Sunday, June 5.

This truly is "breaking news" and it caught everyone - including the hotel and the Jamboree committee - off guard. We appreciate your patience and your understanding as we cope with the abundance.

There may be rooms available at a higher rate. Please check with the Marriott if staying at the conference location is of utmost importance to you. If, however, you were waiting....our best advice is to book your second choice hotel now (a suggested list is below) and to keep calling the Marriott and inquiring if there is availability. The number is (818) 843-6000 or toll free at (800) 736-9712. When calling, please mention the group SCGS Conference. They will advise you of the most current room availability and pricing.

ROOMMATE CONNECTION

If you are willing to share a room with a fellow genealogist and save money on your own hotel room, please register with our roommate service by emailing jamboree@scgsgenealogy.com. 

Make sure you put Roommate Connection in the subject line. Tell us what type of roommate you are looking for – male/female; early riser or night owl; sleeps with the TV on/zone of silence; snoring is/isn’t a problem – whatever is important to you. Be sure to note any allergies or other considerations.

Jamboree 2015 - Marriott Update and Roommate Connection

If you're planning to stay at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport, we strongly encourage you to make your hotel reservations now. We have seen a large number of room reservations come through already. The good news is that this means we'll have lots of attendees and a great Jamboree with lots of people.  Due to recent changes in procedures at the Marriott, however, we are facing a bit of a challenge.

Here's the deal - the Marriott has set up two blocks of rooms for Jamboree. One is $160 per night single/double, and the other is a smaller block on the Concierge level of the East Tower at $180 per night single/double. Concierge guests receive a free hot buffet breakfast, hors d'oeuvres, and soft drinks served in the Concierge Lounge. The tier pricing, and the number of rooms assigned to each tier, was set by the Marriott. To date Wednesday night is sold out for both tiers, Thursday night is sold out at the lower tier with the concierge tier still available, and both tiers are available Friday and Saturday nights.

If you have tried to make a reservation online and received a "no rooms available" message, don't despair.  Rooms may be available, but at different tiers for different nights.

Here's what to do if you get a "no rooms available" message.  Call the Marriott directly at (818) 843-6000 or (800) 840-6450 and make your reservations over the phone. Mention the group Genealogical Jamboree 2015 to get the Jamboree block prices. The room blocks close May 13, 2015, or when the rooms are sold out --which could happen in the near future.

If you want to reduce your lodging costs, consider sharing a room with a fellow genealogist. If you are interested in finding a roommate connection, please send an email to roommate@scgsgenealogy.com. In the body of the message, please include your name, dates of attendance, and tell us a little about yourself (gender, late/early riser, party girl or robe-and-slippers type or if you suffer from any allergies).  We'll try to put you in touch with other like-minded Jamboree attendees so you can make arrangements.

Jamboree: Marriott Room Update

We have word from the Marriott that the Jamboree block has been filled for Thursday only. Rooms may be available at a non-discounted rate - ask the reservation clerk.

Marriott rooms are still available at the discounted Jamboree rate for Friday through Sunday. But don't dawdle if you haven't made your reservations yet. The contract with the Marriott states that the room discount expires on May 9.
