David Dowell has two degrees in history and two in library science, as well as 35 years of experience as a librarian and 4 years as a special investigative officer in the USAF. He taught courses in U.S. genealogy research, European genealogy research and Ethics in the Information Age. He has chaired both the Ethics and Genealogy Committees of the American Library Association. As a member of the ISOGG, NGS, NEHGS, SCGS & MTGS, he coordinates 2 surname yDNA projects and a yDNA haplogroup project.

Dan got his start in genealogy when he was ten years old. His dad took him to visit the grave of his great-grandfather. That event sparked a life long passion for genealogy. He has spent the last thirty years researching his own family and helping others make history a part of their story. He is a popular speaker and educator and has spoken to groups from coast to coast.
