Genealogists utilize church records all the time to document the births and baptisms, but what did that mean for our ancestors? By understanding the history of religion in early America we can better understand why we can and cannot find the records we seek.

Dr. Michael D. Lacopo is a retired small-animal veterinarian born and raised in northern Indiana. A self-described “all-American mutt,” his research skills cover a broad range.
