FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 9, 2013
Paula Hinkel, Co-Chair of the Southern California Genealogical Society's 44th Annual Southern California Genealogy Jamboree, announced that attendance at this year's event was 1178 attendees, volunteers, speakers, and exhibitors. Attendance at the inaugural Family History and DNA conference was 352 attendees and speakers.
"We had expected lower attendance this year, given that the well-attended NGS conference was held last month in nearby Las Vegas," explained Hinkel. "That gave us the motivation to develop another event, the DNA Day, which helped to offset the attendance issue. It was an amazing event, and it was one of the most successful days that I can remember." With fewer cars in the parking lot and less congestion in the rooms during Jamboree, everyone agreed that it was a nice, comfortable, educational, fun weekend.
Planning will start soon for the 2014 Southern California Genealogy Jamboree. Hinkel added, "When we are out of Jamboree detox, that is."
Thank you to all of our wonderful speakers, exhibitors, sponsors, volunteers, and attendees for making this a year we won't forget!
Leo Myers, Paula Hinkel, and the rest of the Jamboree Committee.
