CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS

2015 SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
GENEALOGY JAMBOREE
and the
SCGS EXTENSION SERIES OF WEBINARS

The Southern California Genealogical Society announces its Call for Presentations for the 46th Annual Southern California Genealogy Jamboree, to be held Friday through Sunday, June 5 through 7, 2015, at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel, Burbank, California. The Pre-Conference Day, Thursday, June 4, 2015, will include a full day of DNA presentations and in-depth Workshops.

This Call for Presentations also includes the 2015 Jamboree Extension Series webinar program. This webinar program offers two 90-minute GoToWebinar sessions per month (the first Saturday and the third Wednesday) that are viewed by an international audience of genealogists and family historians.

The theme for the 2015 Jamboree is Genealogy FANfare! which celebrates the use of the friends, associates and neighbors (FANs) of our elusive ancestors in order to aid in our research. We look forward to receiving proposals for lectures and workshops on a variety of topics for an audience skill level ranging from newbie to advanced, including young people. We will work with speakers who have conflicting commitments so that they may participate in Jamboree.

Submissions will be accepted only through the online Speaker Portal between Wednesday, August 27, and Wednesday, October 1, 2014.

Selected speakers will be notified by November 15, 2014.

Further details are available in the Call for Presentations and it is suggested that you download the Submission Guidelines to assist in your preparation.

Please contact Judi Ramsey, Program Chair, with any questions at SCGSJamboree@gmail.com.
We look forward to another great conference in June with your participation.

Download the Call for Presentations for all the details about speaking at the 2015 Southern California Genealogy Jamboree and the SCGS Extension Series of webinars.

Please note that the session originally scheduled, Denise Spurlock's "Life on the Farm" has been postponed indefinitely. Thank you to Michael for filling in.

This lecture illustrates the joys and pitfalls of Virginia research as well as illustrating the Genealogical Proof Standard utilizing social history, female research and family analysis to identify the parents of Elizabeth Stith, the ancestor “from nowhere.”

Dr. Michael D. Lacopo has been researching since 1980 and has lectured internationally and written for numerous periodicals and journals. A self-described “all-American mutt,” his research skills cover a broad range. He is currently a retired veterinarian working full-time in the world of genealogy at Roots4U.com.

If you haven't read his compelling, well-written, cliff-hanging series of his "Hoosier Daddy" blog, take some time and read it from the beginning. It's an excellent example of a well-researched, fascinating family history story. You can find it here: http://roots4u.blogspot.com/

The initial webcast of each session is offered to the public free of charge. Webinars are archived and available only to SCGS members as a benefit of membership in the society. The webinar archive can be found at http://www.scgsgenealogy.com/webinar/archive-index.html. Webinars are available about a week after the session closes. In addition to 24/7 access to the webinar archive, SCGS members enjoy a number of other benefits, including free from-home access to World Vital Records. Learn about all these benefits at http://www.scgsgenealogy.com/membership/benefit-memb.html. You'll also find membership information in the handout.
